EKU McNair Scholars Attend the 2019 McNair Graduate School Preparation Camp at Lake Barkley
EKU McNair scholars Maya Gulliford, Nailah Johnson, Stephen Jones, and Michelle Meza participated in the intensive 2019 McNair Graduate School Preparation Camp held at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park in western Kentucky between May 28 and June 1. The camp, which is organzized by Dr. John Mateja - Goldwater Foundation President and Executive Secretary - and the McNair Scholars Program staff members at Murray State University, is an intensely structured preparation opportunity for McNair scholars who will soon apply for graduate school admissions. Camp presenters included scholarship and foundation professionals, graduate school administrators, graduate school faculty members, and McNair program staff members. This year's presentation and workshop topics included, but were not limited to, developing a graduate amissions elevator speech, drafting a graduate admissions essay and statement of purpose, organizing the gradaute program search, finding financial support, managing the application process, finding graduate school mentors, preparing for a graduate school visit, mock graduate school interviews, and more. This year over 80 McNair scholars from ten universities particpated in the camp.
